Sign Petitions to Get Reform Candidates on the NRA Ballot

We have a very short window in which to get 400+ qualified signatures of Voting Members of the NRA on each of over a dozen candidate petitions.

We were disappointed that the NRA Nominating Committee blocked most of the reform candidates from nomination, so now the only way to get them on the ballot is via the petition process, but petitions must be received by NRA from the candidates by October 8, or they will be ruled invalid.

That doesn’t give us much time, especially once you take into account the time it takes to mail signed petitions to the candidates, get NRA Member Numbers verified, and mail them on to NRA HQ.

We urge every qualified NRA voter (Life Members and those members with 5+ years of uninterrupted Annual membership) to print and sign the petitions as soon as possible, and get them in the mail, either to the individual candidates directly, or to our central clearing house, care of Rocky Marshall, where they’ll be collated for the various candidates and mailed to them.

If you can get additional qualified signatures, by all means do so, but don’t delay.  It’s much better to have one signature received in time, than to have a dozen signatures arrive a day too late.

Rather than reinvent the wheel, here is a link to our friend John Richardson’s excellent blog, where he has posted bios and petitions for all of the reform candidates:

Click on the link, then click on each candidate’s name to access their bio’s and petitions.

Or click on this link to download all of the petitions:

All Petitions 2024

You can mail each petition directly to each candidate or mail them all to: Rocky Marshall at Frontier Truck Gear, PO Box 277, Center Point, TX 78010

You might notice a few names of current or past directors who have been at odds with reform in the past, but these are folks who have seen the light and are walking the talk.  We might not endorse all of them for election, but we do want them all on the ballot so we have the best chance of getting the most pro-reform candidates elected we possibly can.

Don’t delay.  Print, sign, and mail the petitions as soon as possible.

Thanks.

The Full Transcript of the Final Day of the NRA Trial in New York.

Below is a link to the full transcript of the final day of the bench trial in New York in the case of New York v. NRA, which wrapped up on July 29, 2024.

NYvNRA 072924_4PP

The really interesting part begins with the judge’s preliminary decision at the conclusion of the trial, which you’ll find beginning on page 211 of the PDF document.  The closing arguments from NRA and the NY AG are also interesting.  They come right before the decision.  If you find yourself in columns of mumbo-jumbo, you’ve gone too far into the document and gotten into the reference notes at the end.  There’s a lot of those.

Keep in mind that this is an unedited transcript and includes some typos and other mistakes here and there.

NRA Elections

UPDATE: Vote YES on the Bylaw proposal.
The Bylaws require a vote of the membership to create a new officer position, and this is one that needs to happen.  — Jeff

Four candidates dedicated to reforming the troubled NRA will be on the ballot for election to the NRA Board this year.

The four reform candidates are Judge Phil Journey, Rocky Marshall, Dennis Fusaro, and me, Jeff Knox.

We are encouraging people to vote for only these four and no one else.

Bullet voting for just the four reform candidates gives your votes more weight and increases the odds of us winning seats.

Ballots are supposed to be in the March issue of NRA magazines for those members eligible to vote.

Only NRA Life Members, and those Annual Members who have been members for at least 5 consecutive years, without interruption, are eligible to vote and will receive ballots.

Each year, the NRA sends out around 2.5 million ballots, but only about 5% of those are ever returned, meaning that almost 2 million ballots are never returned. Finding and activating those un-voted ballots this year could be the key to getting the reform candidates elected, so please talk with your NRA member friends and encourage them to vote for the four reform candidates.

No one knows what will happen with the trial now going on in New York. It’s almost certain that the NRA will lose, and LaPierre and former Treasurer Woody Phillips will be ordered to pay some restitution, but there’s just no telling what the judge will decide regarding the NRA itself. He could just order them to clean up their act and sin no more – which would leave the same people in charge who allowed this mess in the first place – or he could go so far as to dissolve the current board, throw out the current election, and order a new election. He could also appoint a Special Master or overseer to take charge of reorganizing the NRA. He has a lot of leeway and we can only guess at what he might do, and try to position ourselves to be able to participate in the resurrection of the Association.

There’s also a good chance that the NRA will appeal any decision that goes against them, resulting in more delays and more NRA member money poured into the pockets of lawyers.

For the time being, our focus must be on getting our four reform candidates elected.

Please look for the ballot in the March issue of your NRA magazine, which should be delivered in late February. As soon as you receive your ballot, please mark Jeff Knox, Phil Journey, Rocky Marshall, and Dennis Fusaro, sign the back of the envelope, and mail it. Then reach out to all of your NRA friends, members of your gun club, and in any online forums you participate in, and encourage everyone to do the same.

Thanks.

The watchdog site NRA in Danger has a new post discussing the NRA 2022 Audit Report.

As of the end of 2022, revenue and assets were continuing to decline, as legal expenses continued to take up a larger and larger percentage of expenditures — all thanks to Wayne LaPierre and the impotent Board that refuses to hold him accountable.

P.S. Some of you have requested that we mail you copies of the petitions to sign.  We attempted to mail petitions to everyone who requested them, but missed a few and are now out of time to get those out and back to the candidates, so thank you for the requests, and our apologies for not getting them all processed in a timely manner.

Herrera for Congress: Let’s Go Brandon!!!

Tombstone, Arizona – -(Ammoland.com)- Brandon Herrera, popular YouTube personality, gun designer, FFL, and all-around good guy, has declared his candidacy for Congress in the 23rd District of Texas, bringing a whole new energy to the popular phrase, “Let’s Go, Brandon!!!”

Texas 23 is a massive District covering a huge swath of West Texas, running from the Western side of San Antonio to Eastern El Paso, and South to include all of Big Bend National Park. It is one of the largest and least densely populated Congressional Districts in the country and has been something of a political football over the past several decades, with Republicans and Democrats actively working to Gerrymander the District to lock it up for their side.

NRA Leadership Board of Directors
Open Call for Activist NRA Board Candidates!

Is it possible that the NRA will no longer exist by this time next year?

The New York Attorney General’s lawsuit is expected to go to trial in January of 2024 and last about a month. Possible outcomes include complete dissolution of the Association and sale of its assets and criminal prosecutions. More likely scenarios lean toward some form of ground-up restructuring, such as receivership, which would place the Association under the control of a court-appointed overseer.

It could well lead to the prosecution of (all-too-well) paid staff and officials from the President down to certain Board Members.

Meanwhile, about one-third of the current Board will stand for election in 2024. Nominating petitions can be turned in until November 7, 2023. It’s possible that the NRA will again file for bankruptcy prior to the trial, this time with some legitimacy. Bankruptcy could leave the Director elections in limbo. Then again, a judge might look to replace the deadwood on the old board with fresh, engaged members who want the best for the Association.

So, as the Titanic prepares to set sail, want to join the crew? The 2024 election of Directors might be moot. Then again, it might be an important turning point.

NRAs Americas First Freedom magazine Silencing the NRA screen grab 7-25-2023

Tombstone, Arizona – -(Ammoland.com)- NRA’s America’s First Freedom magazine for August 2023 featured stories on efforts to “Silence the NRA.”

They made a lot of good points, but there’s more to the story. Of course, in the NRA version, the New York Attorney General’s lawsuit against the NRA and four of its top executives is all just one facet of the wider political attacks on gun rights and gun owners. There is some truth to that position, but it is not the whole truth. Without question the NY AG Letitia James targeted the NRA for political reasons.

What the NRA article doesn’t mention though, is that when James and company started their politically-motivated investigation, they found very real, very serious problems with the way the Association had been doing business.
