Voting for Hillary?

Voting for Hillary?

Not a fan of Donald Trump but…

By Jeff Knox

(May 5, 2016) With Donald Trump the presumptive Republican nominee for President, this is shaping up to be the ugliest presidential race in modern history, with the major parties putting up two of the most widely despised candidates ever fielded.  This situation is pretty astounding since neither of these candidates – or Bernie Sanders – should have logically been able to garner enough support to even be considered serious contenders.  But here we are with Hillary and the Donald as our presumptive candidates.  Barring some major development, one or the other is going to be the next President of the United States.

Before the dedicated Trump supporters start throwing rocks at me, let me suggest that only those who were on the Trump Train eleven months ago – and believed he was going to win – toss the first stones.  Is there anyone who actually fits that category?  Trump’s campaign seemed to be more an effort to shake things up and force some changes than to actually become the leader of the free world.  But there was something in his unapologetic bombast that struck a chord with disgruntled Americans, fed-up with carefully scripted politicians who refuse to take a stand or say what they really think.  The more some people were offended by what Trump had to say, the more other people said “Hell yeah!”

Now, Trump has knocked off sixteen rivals and we are left with what many consider an unpalatable choice.  The problem is, there were never any real good choices available for GunVoters.  There were several, like Chris Christie, George Pataki, and John Kasich that GunVoters rejected out of hand.  Others offered some good qualities, but none offered a strong, support-worthy package.  Most though, were marginally acceptable, so most GunVoters waited and watched as Hillary marched toward her coronation as the Queen of the Democrat Party and Donald Trump crushed all challengers.

Bernie Sanders continues to cling to a thin thread of hope bolstered by the idea that if Hillary is finally indicted, he will become his newly-adopted party’s standard bearer.  Dream on Bernie.  You’ve been in Congress for 25 years and you haven’t managed to amass a fortune?  Obviously you don’t know how to play the game and are much too honest to be trusted with a leadership role in the criminal enterprise known as the Democratic Party.

Besides, Bernie’s not even a Democrat.  He’s a self-proclaimed Socialist who has always run as an Independent.  No, if the feds finally get off their duffs and indict Hillary for the blatant crimes she’s openly committed – not to mention the ones she has so far been able to keep mostly under wraps – the Super Delegates are not likely to give Bernie the nod any more than the Republican establishment would give it to Trump if they could figure out a way to avoid it.  The word on the street is that if Hillary goes down in flames, Uncle Joe Biden will be their fallback nominee.

I certainly hope that scuttlebutt is accurate because between Trump and Hillary, there might be enough hatred of Hillary to give Trump the victory, and between Trump and Biden, Joe would almost certainly find a way to scuttle his chances.  But between Trump and that nice, crazy old man from Vermont, Trump would be in serious trouble, regardless of that nice old man’s utterly ridiculous and destructive political theories.

The Republican establishment seems to be slowly coming to grips with the idea that Trump is their only hope of capturing the White House, though there are many still grumbling that they’ll vote for Hillary or a third-party candidate.  That’s to be expected with defeat still stinging, but in the days and weeks to come, the anti-Hillary, anti-Democrat sentiment will force the doubters to start to coalesce around Trump.  A smart pick for VP and some winks and nods toward possible cabinet picks will bring many more to the camp.

Obviously I’m not a Trump fan, and I have concerns about his commitment to protecting the Second Amendment, but we never know what kind of President any candidate will be until they’re actually in office.  Some very promising candidates have been disastrous presidents, while some who seemingly gained the office on a fluke have turned out to be among our greatest.  What I do know is that the Republic can’t survive much more of the current regime’s destructive policies.  Whether it’s Hillary, Bernie, or Uncle Joe, destruction is what we’d get with another Democrat in the White House.

With the rancorous battles to come, we might see some third-party candidates gain some prominence.  But the system is rigged for the two major parties, so aside from the hardcore Bernie supporter who might cast a protest vote for the Green candidate, voting for anyone other than Trump is voting for Hillary.

That’s why I’ll be enthusiastically campaigning for Trump from here on out.  No Democrat, no third party, and Never Hillary.
