Wayne LaPierre’s Brain is Shrinking, Yet He’s Still In Charge of NRA! …Why?

The second week of testimony in the New York trial of NRA, CEO Wayne LaPierre, Secretary and General Counsel John Frazer, and former Treasurer Woody Phillips wrapped up on Friday, January 19, 2024, and things are not looking good for the defendants. A fourth former executive, LaPierre’s former deputy Josh Powell, pled guilty days before the trial began.

Also, just days before the trial, LaPierre announced his resignation, effective at the end of January 2024, at an NRA Board of Directors meeting. Many spectators and even some participants have missed the delayed effect. He’s still technically in charge and, presumably, still having his legal bills covered by NRA members’ money.

In his resignation announcement, LaPierre said he was stepping down for health reasons. He is reported to be suffering from the debilitating effects of chronic Lyme Disease, a tick-borne bacterial infection that can cause a variety of serious health problems. Having struggled with Lyme Disease myself and had people close to me affected by the chronic form of the infection, I won’t join in the chorus that has suggested the whole thing is some ruse on LaPierre’s part. Wayne LaPierre Resigning from National Rifle Association …Now What?

Wayne LaPierre
Wayne LaPierre

Wayne LaPierre, longtime Executive Vice President and CEO of the National Rifle Association, announced his retirement today, citing “health reasons.”

LaPierre’s departure from the organization is scheduled for the end of January and surprised casual NRA members and outside observers. However, I had speculated that LaPierre might try to step out of the Association rather than wait to be forced out by a judge.

The question now is, how this might impact the NRA’s position in the trial that’s scheduled to start Monday in New York. Read my article posted yesterday for more background on the trial.

Having LaPierre out of office probably helps the NRA’s overall case somewhat, but it won’t get the NRA insiders and longtime Board members off the hook.

The National Rifle Association is Heading to Court, One Way or Another

NRA Board Membership Tug of War

Jury selection has begun for the trial between the NRA and the state of New York.

Not the one where the NRA is suing New York officials for encroaching on the Association’s First Amendment rights by using their regulatory authority to threaten and coerce banking, financial, and insurance companies to refrain from doing business with the NRA. That case has already been lost twice, once in the District Court and again in the Appeals Court, but it is on the docket to be heard by the US Supreme Court in the near future.

It’s an important case, and the NRA is absolutely on the right side of that one, and deserves to win.

The case I’m talking about is New York Attorney General Letitia James’ suit against the NRA and four of its current and former executives for misuse of charitable funds, self-dealing, cronyism, and nepotism.

Unfortunately, the NRA is on the wrong side of this one.

4 Outsider Reform Candidates Nominated by NRA Members, LFG!

NRA Board Election Ballot Vote
NRA Board Election Ballot Vote

Tombstone, Arizona – Elections for the NRA Board of Directors will be conducted early next year, and four self-identified reform candidates will be on the ballot.

Judge Phil Journey, Rocky Marshall, Dennis Fusaro, and [myself] Jeff Knox have all secured enough petition signatures from NRA Voting Members to have our names on the ballot in the 2024 Director Election, along with the 25 incumbents and three additional candidates that were nominated by the NRA Nominating Committee.

That means NRA members will have a total of 32 candidates vying for 25 three-year seats on the NRA Board, with the remaining candidates eligible to run for the one-year, 76th Director seat, which will be voted on by members in attendance at the NRA’s Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Dallas in May.

Each year, NRA members are asked to vote on one-third of the three-year seats on the Association’s ridiculously oversized NRA Board of Directors. In total, 76 Directors serve on the Board, with 75 of those serving staggered, three-year terms, meaning 25 come up for election each year in the mail-balloting, along with any seats that might have been vacated during the previous year.

As the Nominating Committee slate indicates, the NRA tends to keep the same group of people on the Board for extended periods of time – as long as they don’t make waves. Continue reading 4 Outsider Reform Candidates Nominated by NRA Members, LFG!

Citizens & the RKBA, Will We Never Learn?

  • Media Bias: The Media has shifted from initial outrage over the horrific invasion to emphasizing Palestinian “oppression” & calling for a peaceful Israeli response.

  • Soft Racism: The “left” holds Palestinians to lower standards due to perceived oppression while expecting Israel to be more conciliatory.

  • Gun Ownership Advocacy: The need for an armed citizenry is real. Israel’s complacency in security was an error. Jews, more than anyone else, should never forget the RKBA.

New Mexico’s Governor is Not an Outlier, Raskin is Worse

Representative Jamie Raskin
Representative Jamie Raskin

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s outrageous executive order suspending the right to arms in the name of a “Health Emergency” is just the latest and most blatant example of how far off the rails Democrats have gone on the issues of gun control, the Second Amendment, the First Amendment, and the Constitution in general.

It is important to recognize that Governor Grisham’s overreach did not happen in a vacuum. In fact, though her Executive Order pushed a little farther and harder than they were quite ready for, it is right in line with mainstream Democratic Party policy and fully supported by their media allies.

Another example: Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) claims to be a constitutional scholar. He taught constitutional law for 25 years before being elected to Congress. Yet, he recently presented a speech “debunking” the “right-wing myth” of a “right to insurrection” hidden in the Second Amendment and the Constitution. Rep. Raskin built a straw man argument from the pro-Second Amendment side so he could easily knock it down by citing the Constitution. Herrera for Congress: Let’s Go Brandon!!!

Tombstone, Arizona – -(Ammoland.com)- Brandon Herrera, popular YouTube personality, gun designer, FFL, and all-around good guy, has declared his candidacy for Congress in the 23rd District of Texas, bringing a whole new energy to the popular phrase, “Let’s Go, Brandon!!!”

Texas 23 is a massive District covering a huge swath of West Texas, running from the Western side of San Antonio to Eastern El Paso, and South to include all of Big Bend National Park. It is one of the largest and least densely populated Congressional Districts in the country and has been something of a political football over the past several decades, with Republicans and Democrats actively working to Gerrymander the District to lock it up for their side.

Can the NRA be Saved? Open Call for Activist NRA Board Candidates!

NRA Leadership Board of Directors
Open Call for Activist NRA Board Candidates!

Is it possible that the NRA will no longer exist by this time next year?

The New York Attorney General’s lawsuit is expected to go to trial in January of 2024 and last about a month. Possible outcomes include complete dissolution of the Association and sale of its assets and criminal prosecutions. More likely scenarios lean toward some form of ground-up restructuring, such as receivership, which would place the Association under the control of a court-appointed overseer.

It could well lead to the prosecution of (all-too-well) paid staff and officials from the President down to certain Board Members.

Meanwhile, about one-third of the current Board will stand for election in 2024. Nominating petitions can be turned in until November 7, 2023. It’s possible that the NRA will again file for bankruptcy prior to the trial, this time with some legitimacy. Bankruptcy could leave the Director elections in limbo. Then again, a judge might look to replace the deadwood on the old board with fresh, engaged members who want the best for the Association.

So, as the Titanic prepares to set sail, want to join the crew? The 2024 election of Directors might be moot. Then again, it might be an important turning point.

NRAs Americas First Freedom magazine Silencing the NRA screen grab 7-25-2023
NRAs Americas First Freedom magazine Silencing the NRA screen grab 7-25-2023

Tombstone, Arizona – -(Ammoland.com)- NRA’s America’s First Freedom magazine for August 2023 featured stories on efforts to “Silence the NRA.”

They made a lot of good points, but there’s more to the story. Of course, in the NRA version, the New York Attorney General’s lawsuit against the NRA and four of its top executives is all just one facet of the wider political attacks on gun rights and gun owners. There is some truth to that position, but it is not the whole truth. Without question the NY AG Letitia James targeted the NRA for political reasons.

What the NRA article doesn’t mention though, is that when James and company started their politically-motivated investigation, they found very real, very serious problems with the way the Association had been doing business.
